Best Ski-Tracking Apps in Austria
As of September 2026, Slopes leads the ski-tracking field in Austria: it auto-detects lifts and runs, covers more than 2,000 resorts worldwide and asks USD 29.99 a year for Premium. The Ski amade App wins inside its own network with Friend Tracker and 3D piste maps, bergfex pairs GPS tracking with GeoSphere weather data, and Ski Tracks stays the simplest pure recorder. Five apps qualified.
Best Ski-Tracking Apps in Austria, ranked
Slopes
Smart Recording splits lifts from runs without any button pressing and names the resort by itself when there is cell signal. Coverage passed 2,000 resorts worldwide, which includes the Austrian majors. Basic tracking is free; Premium costs USD 29.99 a year (USD 49.99 family) and adds 3D trail maps, run replay, heart rate and calorie data and per-run analysis. It runs on iPhone, Android and Apple Watch, and supports ski, snowboard, splitboard, sit-ski and telemark.
Best for: Skiers who want the most accurate stats

Inside its own network this beats every generalist. The piste tracker logs the day as a diary you can replay and share, while photorealistic 3D maps carry A-to-B routing between lifts and live hut and lift status. Friend Tracker places connected friends on the same 3D map, which matters when a group splits across valleys. The app also sells the ski pass. Useless outside the network, hence second place.
Best for: Groups skiing Salzburg and Styria

An Austrian portal app that records runs and then buries them in data: leaderboards for kilometres and elevation gain, a community activity feed and HealthKit export to Apple Health. The free tier covers tracking, snow info and lift status across Austria, Switzerland, Germany, northern Italy, France and Slovenia. PRO adds 6-hour snow forecast maps, 7-day snow analysis, an avalanche and slope-steepness layer, 200+ weather stations and GeoSphere and DWD reports.
Best for: Skiers who plan around weather and snow

A country-specific app listing Solden, Ischgl, Obertauern, Hintertux Glacier, Stubai Glacier, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Zell am See-Kaprun, Lech Zurs, Kitzbuhel, Mayrhofen, St. Anton and the Pitztal Glacier among others. Tracked days earn PINS that feed resort, country and world rankings, with coupons and vouchers as prizes. One MyiSKI account unlocks the sibling apps for France, Switzerland, Italy and the USA. An Apple Watch app shows tracking data live.
Best for: Skiers touring several Austrian resorts

The veteran GPS logger from Core Coders does one job. It records speed, distance, altitude and vertical automatically, with no start and stop at each run, then reports run count, top speed, average speed, longest run and the downhill-versus-lift split. Routes are saved to a map, photos attach to the day, a smartwatch shows live stats, and the archive keeps full season and lifetime history. No resort database, no routing, no friend positions.
Best for: Skiers who want a plain recorder
See full factsWhat does a ski-tracking app actually record?
Every app in this list writes the same core GPS log: distance, vertical drop, top speed and time on snow. Ski Tracks reports run count, top speed, average speed, longest run and the split between downhill time and chairlift time, and it records automatically instead of asking you to press start at the top of each pitch. Slopes goes further with Smart Recording, which separates lifts from descents on its own and, with cell reception, identifies the resort you are standing in.
The Austrian-built options add context around the numbers. bergfex ranks your day against friends and the wider community on kilometres and elevation gain, and exports activities to Apple Health through HealthKit. The Ski amade App stores the day in a diary you can replay and share, alongside lift, piste and hut status. iSKI Austria turns tracked days into PINS for resort, country and world rankings.
How did we rank these apps for Austrian conditions?
Six weighted criteria decide the order. Austrian resort coverage carries 0.25, because an app that does not know the Zillertal lift network cannot label your runs. Tracking accuracy and automatic lift or run detection also carry 0.25. Battery and offline behaviour is worth 0.15, piste maps and on-mountain navigation another 0.15, price and value 0.10, and social or safety features the final 0.10.
Scores come from published feature lists and store listings checked on 15 September 2026, not from vendor briefings. Apps that only republish snow depths without recording a GPS track were excluded. Resort-specific apps were judged on the terrain they actually cover, so the Ski amade App is scored on its own regions rather than penalised for ignoring Tyrol.
What do ski-tracking apps cost in Austria?
Tracking itself is usually free. Slopes records runs, vertical and lift rides at no cost, with Premium at USD 29.99 a year and a family plan at USD 49.99 a year as listed in September 2026. That subscription unlocks 3D trail maps, run replay, heart rate and calorie data, and per-run performance analysis. Slopes also sells day passes that activate the first time you press record and never expire while unused, and an annual pass runs 12 months from purchase rather than to the end of the season.
bergfex is a free download with an optional PRO tier that adds avalanche and slope-steepness layers, 6-hour snow forecast maps and more than 200 weather stations. Ski Tracks is sold as a standalone recorder, and the Ski amade App doubles as a ski pass shop.
How do you set up tracking before your first lift?
Install and sign in the night before
Download the app on hotel Wi-Fi, not on a gondola queue. iSKI Austria needs a MyiSKI account, which then carries across iSKI Tracker, iSKI Swiss, iSKI Italy and the other country apps. The Ski amade App requires iOS 12.0 or later on iPhone and visionOS 1.0 or later on Apple Vision devices, so check the operating system before you travel.
Allow background location
Tracking only works if the app may use location while it is closed. Both the Ski amade App and bergfex state that background GPS shortens battery life, which is the trade-off for a complete log. Set location permission to Always, then turn the screen off and leave the phone in an inside pocket.
Pick the activity type
Slopes asks once per day and supports ski, snowboard, monoski, splitboard, sit-ski and telemark, then handles lift and run detection itself. Getting this right matters for speed and vertical averages, because a splitboard ascent is not a chairlift ride.
Pair a watch if you have one
Slopes runs on iPhone, Android and Apple Watch. iSKI Austria launches an activity straight from an Apple Watch and shows live tracking data on the wrist, and Ski Tracks connects to a smartwatch for the same purpose. A watch keeps the phone in your pocket at minus 10 degrees.
Check the log at lunch
Open the app once in the hut and confirm runs are being counted. If the resort name is wrong on Slopes, the automatic detection missed the cell signal; correcting it then is faster than editing 18 runs that evening.
Why does GPS tracking go wrong on Austrian mountains?
Three failure modes account for most complaints. Cold kills battery: every app here warns that continuous background GPS drains the phone, and a January morning at minus 12 degrees on the Hintertux glacier can halve what you would get in the valley. Carry the phone against your body, not in an outer shell pocket.
The second is missing mobile data. Slopes identifies the resort automatically only when there is cell reception, so a day in a deep side valley may record perfectly but land in the wrong place. The third is permissions: if location access is set to While Using, the log stops the moment the screen sleeps on a 6-minute gondola ride, and the day comes back as a handful of disconnected fragments.
Which app suits which kind of ski trip?
If you ski several countries a season and care about numbers, the cross-resort trackers win. Slopes covers more than 2,000 resorts worldwide and keeps a single history; Ski Tracks keeps a full season and lifetime archive of every recorded day with photos attached to it.
If your week sits inside one network, the resort app usually beats the generalist. The Ski amade App adds A-to-B routing between lifts, photorealistic 3D maps, live hut information and Friend Tracker positions for the group, which a generic recorder cannot do. iSKI Austria fills the middle: it lists Solden, Ischgl, Obertauern, Kitzbuhel, Mayrhofen, Lech Zurs, St. Anton and more than a dozen other Austrian areas in one app. Families skiing with non-skiers often run bergfex in parallel for webcams and GeoSphere weather reports.
