FATMAP: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still download it?
No. FATMAP was discontinued on 1 October 2024, after Strava acquired the company in January 2023, and neither the app nor the website is available.
What happened to its maps?
The 3D map technology behind FATMAP moved into Strava, where it powers maps and route planning. Curated off-piste route descriptions did not carry over in the same guidebook format.
What did it cost?
Premium access to FATMAP was about USD 30 a year at the time of the Strava acquisition in January 2023. Billing ended with the shutdown in October 2024.
Why did skiers rate it?
FATMAP rendered high-resolution 3D terrain with slope information and route notes, which backcountry skiers used to scout descents, including glaciated terrain, before going out.
What should I use instead in Austria?
For resort conditions, bergfex reports snow depths, open slopes and webcams. For 3D route planning, Strava now carries the engine FATMAP built.
