Strava: Frequently Asked Questions

Does it replace FATMAP for skiers?

Partly. Strava absorbed the FATMAP team and map engine, so 3D terrain and route planning live on, but the curated ski descent guides from the old app were not reproduced one for one.

How much is the subscription?

In the euro area, Strava was listed at EUR 74.99 a year or EUR 10.99 a month in September 2026. Free accounts keep basic map and activity features.

Can it tell me if lifts are open in Austria?

No. Strava tracks activities and plans routes; it does not publish snow depths, open slope counts or lift ticket prices for Austrian ski areas.

Who runs the mapping team?

FATMAP founder Misha Gopaul joined Strava as VP of Product after the January 2023 acquisition, reporting to the chief product and technology officer.

Is it useful alongside bergfex?

Yes, as a pair. Many skiers plan terrain in Strava and check conditions in bergfex, since the two cover different halves of the job.
