As of September 2026, Therme Laa is a thermal spa resort in Laa an der Thaya, Lower Austria, opened in October 2002 and run by VAMED Vitality World. It combines a public thermal spa (main pool around 34C), a 122-room four-star superior hotel from 2005, the adults-only SILENT SPA from December 2016 and ten Silent Villas opened on 2 August 2024.

What exactly is Therme Laa?

Therme Laa is a thermal spa resort in Laa an der Thaya, a town in the Weinviertel region of Lower Austria close to the Czech border. The spa opened in October 2002. A four-star superior hotel with 122 rooms followed in 2005, and a medical department, Vitality MED Laa, was opened in November 2011 with a focus on the musculoskeletal system. The operator is VAMED Vitality World.

The site has grown in stages. December 2016 brought the adults-only SILENT SPA, and on 2 August 2024 ten Silent Villas opened beside a private bathing lake. Operator figures put total investment at roughly EUR 100 million and cumulative guest numbers above seven million since 2002.

What does a visit cost in 2026?

Ticket prices change by season, so check the official rate card before travelling. Two offers were published on the resort website on 25 September 2026: guests aged 60 and over pay EUR 30 per person for a spa visit, available Monday to Sunday, and a reserved comfort lounger on the upper level of the spa hall costs EUR 5 per person, with a basket at EUR 10.

Holders of the Niederoesterreich-CARD get a reduced adult day ticket without sauna, valid in March, April, May, September and October 2026, plus one accompanying child ticket at EUR 20. That deal excludes Austrian school holidays, public holidays and the summer spa period from 29 May to 6 September 2026.

Who is the SILENT SPA for, and how is it different?

The SILENT SPA opened on 3 December 2016 as a separate adults-only area with a minimum age of 16. It is reached by its own access road: the public spa, the SILENT SPA and the hotel use two different entrances, so the signage at the site matters. Its architecture repeats a Gothic tracery motif in the pool and rest areas.

Volume tells the story of the split. By the resort's twentieth anniversary in 2022, trade reporting counted roughly 154,500 SILENT SPA visitors against more than six million visits to the resort overall. Distributor listings for hotel guests quote a SILENT SPA surcharge of EUR 51 to EUR 71 per person per day, checked on 25 September 2026.

Family rules matter too: children under 14 have no access to the sauna world, with the exception of the family textile sauna, which children may use once they are out of nappies. One more piece of admin for autumn 2026: Webhotels vouchers cannot be redeemed from 14:00 on 5 October 2026 until around midday on 8 October 2026 because of a system migration.

Which Lower Austria spas are the realistic alternatives?

Linsberg Asia in Bad Erlach is the closest match for adults who want quiet water. Entry is restricted to guests aged 16 and over, the healing and thermal water sits at about 35C, and the public spa is built around eight pool areas and nine themed saunas. It also runs a monthly late-night opening.

Roemertherme Baden is the urban option, about 3,500 square metres of indoor and outdoor pools under a large free-hanging glass roof in the centre of Baden. Bathing ends at 21:30, summer opening starts at 09:00, and the Niederoesterreich-CARD covers a single three-hour ticket without sauna between 1 May and 25 October 2026. From Baden station, the Badner Bahn stop Josefsplatz is an eight-minute walk away.
