When is February half term 2027, and which Austrian weeks are busiest?

Most English councils have set half term for Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027, including Royal Greenwich, Bexley and Luton. Some authorities in England, Scotland and Wales instead take 8 to 12 February, and Northern Ireland has a shorter break around 11 and 12 February. Does a half-term week cost more than skiing the same resorts in March?

Yes, and the pass calendars prove it. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis charges high-season rates from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027, with low season only from 13 to 19 March and again from 30 March to 4 April 2027. Small areas can still work if you use the back doors. Obertauern has 11 entry points into its circuit, and on Wednesdays the Gamsleitenbahn I, Achenrainbahn and Zehnerkarbahn start at 8:30 AM rather than 9:00.

Timing beats tactics, though. If you can pick 8 to 12 February 2027, you avoid the Tyrol, Salzburg, Vorarlberg, Upper Austria and Styria break of 15 to 20 February, when the local school population is off as well.

  4. Buy the pass in presale

    Book the lift pass at the same time as the accommodation. SkiWelt's online presale runs 26 September to 2 December 2026 at noon. In Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, any overnight stay triggers the guest card and its reduced rate table, so book lodging before you price the pass.

  5. Use the free afternoon

    Plan the transfer day properly. Ski ALPIN CARD tickets in Zell am See-Kaprun are valid from 3 PM on the day before, and SkiWelt passes of two days or more give free lift use from 3 PM the previous day. On a Saturday arrival that is a genuine extra half session, provided your rental shop is open.

What mistakes catch families out in February?

The first is treating half term as shoulder season. It is not: February falls inside the high-season window everywhere we checked, with low season only returning on 13 March 2027 in both Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis and SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental.
