bergfex Touren: Frequently Asked Questions
Can you use it for ski touring, not just hiking?
Yes. bergfex Touren lists ski tours as one of its activity types alongside hiking, running and biking, and its topographic maps cover the full Alpine region. Note that the planner follows trail networks, so open-slope lines are better imported as GPX.
Do you need the Pro subscription?
For winter, effectively yes: the slope-steepness layer, offline maps and deeper zoom levels sit behind Pro in bergfex Touren. Both app stores advertise a 7-day trial so you can test it on a real tour first.
Does it work without mobile signal?
Offline maps are the Pro feature that makes bergfex Touren usable in side valleys with no reception. Download the tiles for the approach and descent before you leave Wi-Fi.
How does it compare with alpenvereinaktiv?
bergfex Touren has the larger general database and stronger weather integration; the Alpine club portal has more consistently vetted ski tour write-ups and includes its Pro tier with membership. Many Austrian tourers run both.
Can it replace the avalanche bulletin?
No. bergfex Touren displays avalanche information and terrain layers, but the official regional bulletin, for example lawinen.report in Tyrol, remains the primary source for danger level and problem type.
