Lawinen.report: Frequently Asked Questions
Who needs it?
Anyone skiing outside groomed and secured pistes in Tyrol, plus ski tourers and snowshoers. Lawinen.report is not required reading for piste-only skiers, though the danger level is a good sanity check after heavy snowfall.
When is the bulletin published?
During the season, Lawinen.report issues the bulletin in the afternoon for the following day and updates it the next morning, which is why tour planning the night before and a re-check at breakfast are both standard practice.
Does it cover Salzburg and Vorarlberg?
No. Lawinen.report covers the Euregio provinces of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino, so skiers in Salzburg, Vorarlberg, Styria, Carinthia and the eastern provinces need their own provincial avalanche warning service.
How does it relate to snow forecast apps?
They answer different questions. A snowfall app tells you how much snow will fall, while Lawinen.report tells you what the existing snowpack will do, using the 5-level European danger scale and named avalanche problems.
Is there a cost?
No. Lawinen.report is a public service funded by the three provincial administrations, and both the website and the app version are free to use in German, Italian and English.
